Title: PA Inspector, please answer
Post by: BennyLT on April 14, 2008, 03:59:59 pm
Do I need a carburator bowl vent to pass visual inspection? (1989 4.2L YJ)

I installed a MC2100 and noticed there is no bowl vent.

If it came from the factory with one you need it. Unless you know who is doing the visual.....Shhhhhh

My 78 CJ was converted with a Howell Injection Kit and wouldn't pass (NOT factory specs) even though it's modernized and cleaner. Went with the milage exemption before just saying the hell with it and putting it on a trailer and dropping the registration, inspection, insurance.

Our lawn mowers pollute more than ANY vehicle does. Next we'll have to have them tested too...damn environmentalists. I have a tree out back I wish they would come and hug... ;D

Thanks...   humm i'll have to have a chat with the ebay guy about this.  he sold me the emissions compliant kit.  It was expensiveish but for me better then piecing it together my self.

I heard a roumer that there are talks about losening the PA emissions inspection requirements.....  Due to smaller shops not being able to be competative due to the cost of equipment.   But that wont have anything to do with the visual inspection.

Spruce Creek (just outside State College)
I may or may not need to take you up on, at least the visual inspection part, not the sniffer.  Also, the wife and i plan on relocating some time fairly soon.  So unless i want to sell the jeep in a package deal with our house, I will need to get it compliant.

Thanks!   Hopefully i wont need it done.  But If i do... I'll give you a shout.

I'm also keeping the carter is backup, if i need to, I can throw that back on temporarily.  I have to put on my buddy's narrower tires to pass safety inspection because I dont have wider flares yet.  .

Move to Adams County - what are emissions tests?????  I've got a sticker on windshield of my XJ 'cause I bought it in York County (visual inspection, I believe).  Hell - if all you're dealing with is visual super-glue a bogus vacuum line onto the carb bowl and splice it into somewhere useless -  ;D like a fitting on your air cleaner housing  ;)

What if your vehicle was registered in a county without emissions and then the county goes to emissions testing.  I think it should be "grandfathered" to not need the testing.  When a county switches it could end up with a large population all of the sudden needing costly repairs or even new vehicles within one year.  that doesnt seem fair.
