To All:
Will a rag top from a 2005 jeep fit a 1999 Jeep (Both TJ's)?

Any mods required?

Steve,

It depends on the "brand" & "style" top according to Bestop

Bestop Sailcloth - '88-'95 / '97-'02 / '03-'06 etc.
Bestop Supertop - '87-'95 / '97-'06 (This one will work for you)
Bestop Sunrider - '97-'02 / '03-'06

Whether they can be modified....I don't know

I have a factory 2005 top that I want to put on my 1999.

The 99 is wearing, velcro is not hold very well and certain wear points are thread barren.

Just hoping that the 2005 will fit on the 99

Any other comments appreciated.

Yes it will fit. They did change a few things but if you have the complete top you shouldn't have a problem.

At best their are minor changes in the hardware and such. But outside that it should fit Steve.
