I'm getting ready to order synthetic winchline and I'm not sure which way to go. If I get 5/16 it will have a strength of 12,300 and will be 125' long. Or if i get the 3/8 it will have a strength of 17,600 but will only be a 100' long. The winch is a Warn XD9000I and came with 125' of 5/16 steel. Which would be my best option. Thanks Scott

how far you plan on winchin? how deep you plan on getting stuck? is the better question. lol
im been looking to switch over to synthetic here soon and was thinkin more along the lines of 3/8 at 100 foot only because there is usually a tree (or other) close enough and if not i have the 25' logger chain on board.

3/8" line does come at 125'.....I, Grant, and Clair each have it at that length which will work with your XD9000i
A Warn 8000i can only do 100' of it, but that additional 25' of line can be made into and additional line with the appropriate loops at each end.
BTW- Adam, I was in the middle of "1/2 Way Hill" many, many years ago at Paragon and nobody had 125' back then. There are a select few in the Club that remember that day.
(Wayne Fish & Dave DeChristopher may be the only existing members from those days)
Don't ask Dave about that day...It was a nightmare trip for him, myself, and his younger brother Joe.
But what a story to have been able to tell over the past 9 years. I honestly thought I was going to die in a 150' high speed roll-over that day.

Thanks, I was going by a chart on masterpull's website that said that if you go from 5/16 to 3/8 on the XD9000I you have to go with 100'.

Scott, talk to Trey at Hoaks 4WD. He is up on winch lines ,he and I have had several conversations on syn line including thermal protection, length, diameter. Hoaks also has competative price on MasterPull lines , they're local and support the club. I been using syn for years and have it on all my winches except the truck. My 2 cents.

If you can find any way to find the $ for it, go with Masterpull XD. It's THE end all, be all, of syn lines. 5/16 is more than heavy enough.
