Title: clutch / shifting issues
Post by: benny on June 23, 2010, 07:27:10 pm
I have a 2000 TJ SE w/ 2.5L manual 5 speed and no A/C.

The problem that with the engine running I am having is that it is extremely hard to shift into any gear.  The tranny is not grinding at all and the clutch does not feel to be slipping for any appreciable amount.

Now, if I turn the engine off, I can row thru all of the gears with no problems what so ever.

Originally I was thinking clutch, but now I am considering the master cylinder.  Any thoughts would be apprecaited.

check the fluid? if it was the master cylinder, there would be the same problem running or not. is there a vacuum assist on it?

Could very well be the Master cylinder. can you see how much movement the slave cylinder has?

I don't know if there is a vacuum assist, but the fluid level is fine w/ no drop in amount that would require replacement.

Was not able to really see anything out of the ordinary, but I'll have to check the slave.
