Title: stock tj tire clearance
Post by: JustinM on February 19, 2011, 05:47:42 pm
Until i get the cash to install my lift what can i stick under a stock 99 TJ? Ive done some research online and it tooks like i can get 31 10.50 15's but before i go do that id like a second opinion as some say only a 30x9.5. The door seal says p20575r15 which is what it on it, and they just aint cutting it.

the door seal is manufacturers recommended tires, and i ve read that 30's are MAX for stock, but a tire you wheel with and a tire you mall crawl with fit differently.

I have seen 31x10.5R15s on a stock 1998 TJ.  But they will rub. 30x9.5R15 were the stock "oversized" tires on sports and Sahara's.  The Rubicon TJ and LJ came with a STOCK LT245x75R16 and are a true 31" tire and a LT265x75R16 which is a true 32" tire will fit though they Rub (a lot)  Rubicons have a slightly different spring rate and length though.   One question I have for you, what gearing in in your wrangler?  Chrysler had all kinds of optional gear available, what gearing you have will have a lot of "say" in regards to seat of the pants performance opinions.
