Technical Advice and Questions / Re: I need re-gearing advice!

I know it's not a JK, but my (4cyl) 2.5L yj is regeared to 4.88 and it pushes 35s.  It'll accelerate hard but it won't go over 60-65 unless it's downhill.

Personally, I think 35s are big enough for anything offroad.  I think you'd be good with 4.88s.

I'm Zach, I was just up at Jeep Jam and ran into this group.  I've got a 95' yj with the following mods:

SOA on 3.5 lift springs
Ford 8.8LS rear
TW CV Driveshaft w/ SYE
More Steering Kit
Smittybilt tube front bumper/ Smitty rear SRC bumper and tire carrier
35in Goodyear MT/Rs
Both axles regeared to 4.88

*My favorite part about it is that it's a 4 banger that holds it's own with bigger rigs*

A little flexing, the shocks don't let down very far:

I'm from Finksburg MD btw

Hey everyone, I was just at Jeep Jam this weekend.  I realized after going over the obstacles that my vacuum actuator on my front axle failed. 2W-LO is not fun! If anybody else drives a yj and has had this happen, here's what I did:

Remove the vacuum/fork housing from the axle:

Go to home depot and buy a 75cent nylon spacer, Dimensions: 1/2 x 5/8 x .375

Remove the c-clips and slide out the vacuum housing and then place the spacer inside.  Make sure you put it on the vacuum side.

The spacer locks the gear fork so the two axle shafts are always connected.

***Before reinstalling it, you must move the gear connector piece on the axle over to the left side.  You may have to jack up the passenger side wheel and rotate it slightly.***

This eliminates the need for a posi-lock cable and it only cost 75 cents.  TJs run with solid front axles so this shouldn't be a problem for YJs.
