yeah it was just too easy. arent the 4.0s alot narrower than a normal cj motor?

The straight six found in the CJ's is a 258 ci (4.2L) [Late 70's and 80's CJ's, older one's could have 232 ci, buick 225 v6, or 4cyl].  The 4.0L (242 ci) is the same block with shorter stroke on the crank.  The hardest part of switching from a 258 to a 4.0L would be transfering the computer.

My 1996 ZJ with a 4.0 just let go with 290,600 original miles.  What Jeep years and out of which models can I look to for used motors?

I have herd of this recall.  I was told to get it done to my 96, but I never had any trouble with it.  Not entirely sure what the deal is, but I heard that it won't do it if you make sure the shifter is pressed all the way forward so it engages in park.  I could be wrong on that, but that's what I thought.  I do not believe it has anything to do with T case or drive shaft as I have a 242 case, not the 249.  I think it is in the shifter itself.  You should be able to contact a Jeep dealer to find out more.

I was talking to my Outdoor Recreation professor at Penn State and he said a big thing that helped the ATV cause was that the registering of ATV's created a source of money that could be used.  He said that if we were to propose some sort of yearly permit system to have access to trails, it might help influence the BOF to consider 4x4's more.  He also said that there are some people on the SNOWMOBILE AND ATV ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC) who would support 4x4 recreation.  If we could find these persons, then maybe would could try to have a little backing from an already standing advisory committee.
