Whining noise coming from engine compartment!
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:45:48 pm »
I have an 86 CJ-7 with a stock Carbureted 258 inline 6 cyl, 4 speed tranny.  I have a whining noise coming from the engine compartment somewhere, usually doesn't start till the engine has warmed up and once it starts it doesn't stop checked all my vacuum lines replaced the gasket on the base of the carb, nothing noise is still there, while it is idling if you give it some gas the noise goes away so I am think I may just need to replace the carb.  If you have any ideas on what this may be please send them my way before i go wasting money on a new carb.

pull your aircleaner off and see if thats the noise, maybe a belt or bearing, power steering or water pump maybe alternator.
build it, beat it, break it, fix it, repeat
