Fought with my new rock rails all day yesterday, and I have to admit defeat. :-\ they are still in the jeep and not on them.... I did however pick up my new rim today. Too cold to swap it out and put the spare back on the back.

Tomorrow or the next day it will be time to pull out the grinder and make the rails fit. Come hell or high water I will have them on before the weekend.

I don't know if all rock rail installations are difficult, but mine were.  Had to cut away the pinch seam on the frame, grind out the bolt holes, and of course bore into the frame to make the holes, which took me leaning on my dad's shoulder for all I was worth just so he could punch through the metal with the drill.

We put each rail up on the floor jack (in place), marked the holes, then drilled pilot holes.  IMO, 2 people makes the job easier...and it still was challenging!

Did everyone else hear that....sounded like she offered to help me???

after several obnoxious noises coming from the front of the jeep i decided to fight the blistery winds and feed my curiosity only to find that the front drivers wheel joint decided to disassemble itself, which would probably explain the sound of an object leaving my jeep the other day. lol. guess since ive been told a layoff is eminent before christmas it can wait. besides its nasty cold out there.

on a lighter note we installed the radiator in boys cj and installed a separate fuse box , so we dont overload the original wiring, to run the aftermarket radio, cb, and other various electrical accessories.

Got rid of my extremely loud and piercing deer-alert squeal by having my front driveshaft re-built.  Not a job I would have wanted to do myself, especially in 20 deg weather.  Now I can hear my tires and the flapping of the top in the wind again ;D

hillbilly,

I can remember a time when a auto-electric specialist told my father "there is a good reason why your jeep does not even have a cigarette lighter in it!"   Look into upgrading your alternator to at least 80-120amp if you are planning on a radio and a CB, bigger if a winch is in the future.   The old 45amp or 70amp "heavy duty" is not going to keep up after a lot of accessories.

yeah we were working on that since there currently isnt an alternator at all in the cj, we figured we would see what santa brings first before i go buy one.

and replaced the u joint on the front axle shaft on the xj.

Patched a "stealthed" rust hole that developed behind my drivers seat the size of my fist in the 1982. Looked in vain for a missing piece of throttle linkage. still putting it back together after having the frame welded up and the brake proportioning valve replaced.

Started the 1981, and aired up the tires.

Gave dirty looks to the 2005 and 1946 to keep them in line.  I found that neglected jeeps go into mechanical revolt if you ignore them to much.

continued with the jeep reassembly today,  exhaust is on, header is one, clutch linkage connected, intake is on, carb is on, smog pump, power steering pump, and alternator installed.  Coolant filled, brakes sort of blead, swaybar bushing replaced, holes patched, knuckles skinned, butt frozen and grease under fingernails.  Maybe another days worth of work until it runs again.  Just in time to declare snow run through to Laurel lake.

Had the Master Cylinder replaced because I didn't like the feeling of the brake pedal hitting the floor when I wanted to stop :o
