I put the steering on, bled the brakes and moved it for the first time in almost 2 years. Let's just say she's got some bugs to be worked out.

Death Wobble you musta been doing something to yours today I assume? I saw you at Advance Auto along 30 this afternoon.

Yeah, I was going in to price an XJ alternator and the employee asks me, 4 3/4" or 5 1/8"??  I had no idea, so I called Charlie.  He had no idea, so I left.

P.S. Thanks again to Hillbilly, Tuna, Bob, and especially TED for helping me out when Wobble decided to die on me on the way to Sonic!  Who knew that I'd need that new CB for an emergency after the meeting?  I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Yep!  If you have never removed the alternator from an old XJ before, let me tell you that it ranks about an 8 on the 10 scale of suckiness !  There is *no easy way* to get to it.  You have to start taking things off and out just to access the blasted thing!  Had every service manual that I own spread out around the garage like a library trying to follow diagrams.  After the thing was finally out, I took it to the auto parts store to have it tested, just to be sure.  Once it was on the dyno, we found out with all certainty that it was toast !  So, I spent my York Fair money (and then some) on a new alternator.  FWIW, I think it measured 4 3/4" across.  It looked exactly like the replacement one that they sold me.  Hopefully, it will fit!

On a lesser note, the coolant bottle was leaking and almost empty again, so it was Billy Mays' Mighty Putty to the rescue there.  ;)

Got the Rubicon LJ stuck in the woods located at the family farm,  actually had to winch out,  kind of embarrassing.

Yes it does I've pulled mine twice! As you already know, you have to pull the bracket before the Alt will "fall" out.

Once it was on the dyno, we found out with all certainty that it was toast !  So, I spent my York Fair money (and then some) on a new alternator.

I (always) go to Fleet Electric in Colonial Park (Harrisburg), (717) 652-0241 for ANY electrical motor work. The last time I was there (about 2 or so years ago) it cost about $115 or so for my Alt. I never had anyone ask me what size I , er... I mean "it" was  :-[  I just told them what year and that was it. Fleet is an awesome place, they'll find/solve electrical problems in your vehicle, rebuild all kinds of electrial motors.  FYI...

I'm not touching that one.  (Well, maybe if you ask nicely... ;D)
Was that $115 parts AND labor?!?  Because I paid $100 cash-and-carry for my alternator.

replaced the radio in the new jeep yesterday and someone was kind enough to remove it for me last night, along with my tomtom,  2 chainsaws and a cb.   what a world they molested all 3 of my jeeps.

And people think that the city is bad!!!  That's terrible!  You need to find out who's doing that and give them a little backwoods payback!

there were 6 jeeps total in this escapade, and yes they will be dealt with accordingly.   3rd world accordingly.
