Tire question....
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:16:35 am »
I'm running 33x12.5x15 tires....

I'm going to sound stupid here but here goes....what if I go to 16" tires...what all does this entail?  Different rims?  Just wondering since I'm thinking about getting used or retread tires, due to cost and I cant find my "normal" size...

Thanks and please, be kind!!!

Jim

Different rims, matching bolt pattern and make sure that it clears your fenders.

remember your backspacing also, and a 33 on a 15 rim is the same height as a 33 on a 16 rim but metrics work out alot different.
build it, beat it, break it, fix it, repeat

Jim check with Virgina D.O.T. and see if retread tires can be run on the front of a highway vehicle ?

How about this scenario . JIM : Hey Bob I just cut a sidewall on a rear tire and trashed my spare yesterday on Saw Tooth Trail , I have no extra rubber , and nobodies spare will fit my jeep Bob , now what do I do ?
BOB : Well we can take my rubber and mount it on your 15" X 12"or 10" rim and away you go .
                                     JIM : Ut -Oh , I have 16" rims .
Bob : OK lets look for a Jeep runniing 16" rubber . What are the odds ?

most of the new jeeps have 16's on them now dont they the grands and jk's and i think the later tj's, so maybe you can pick a set of rims up that way.

you'll find 16" ,17" , 18" and some 20" on newer Jeeps , depends on the model and year and option .
The 15" is a old school size rim .

Good luck trying to buy 15" tires in the very near future. Most if not all of the tire manufacturers have stopped making them.
Auto makers don't use them any longer in new cars and trucks so there is no need to produce any more.
Once inventories out there are depleted that will be it. The "skuttle-butt" is in about 12-18 months they will be gone.
Oh, and places are charging much more for them because they can.

You may as well upgrade rims and tires Jim, either now or later...
